DESCRIPTION:
Under general direction, and in partnership with MAAC’s executive team and consultants, plans, organizes controls, integrates and directs MAAC’s fund development programs and activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, building financial support for MAAC’s programs, services and advocacy in the community; providing professional assistance and support to MAAC management and designated consultants related to fund development, marketing, and public relations matters, programs and strategies. The incumbent will manage, as well as assist with, the President/CEO’s fundraising schedule and MAAC’s fundraising proposal process. The incumbent will respond to media inquiries and may interact with the media on a regular basis on a wide variety of issues as well as represent MAAC with a broad range of business, community, service and other organizations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This single incumbent class is responsible for assisting MAAC’s President/CEO and the executive leadership team in developing, managing and integrating broad fund development strategies, programs and services for MAAC, The incumbent will have significant involvement in assisting the organization to identify key fund development resources, enhance its image with key stakeholders, be responsive to its public and promote the extension of its services in the community. The incumbent provides advice, assistance and counsel to the President/CEO and other executives regarding public and media relations, community outreach and communications with key stakeholders on issues of substantial visibility, impact and sensitivity. Responsibilities require a broad knowledge of operations, programs and activities and the exercise of creativity, initiative, seasoned judgment and political acumen in order to effectively build awareness and develop long-term collaborations and partnerships for community and client service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· In conjunction with the President/CEO and the management team, plans, organizes, controls, manages and evaluates fund development, marketing and public relations strategies; participates in developing and establishing operational plans and initiatives to meet funding goals and objectives; implements plans, work programs, processes, procedures and policies required to achieve overall performance results; coordinates and integrates resource development functions and responsibilities to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness; participates in developing and monitoring performance against annual operating budgets.
· Provides coordination and internal oversight for the development and implementation of MAAC’s fund development program; assists in the development and implementation of the Strategic Fund Development Plan; cultivates relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, government entities and other organizations to gain funding for MAAC programs; oversees donor acknowledgement and recognition programs.
· Manages and assists with the President/CEO’s fundraising schedule and MAAC’s fund raising proposal process.
· Serves as the coordinator for grants in conjunction with the grant writer(s) to ensure grant submissions are accurate and timely. Maintains the grants database and is knowledgeable about all grant processes at all times.
· Leads and participates with managers of other divisions in establishing strategic plans; coordinates fund development, marketing, public relations, and policy issues with the President/CEO, the executive management team and the directors and managers of other MAAC programs.
· Provides leadership and works with other staff in the day-to-day management practices that support MAAC’s mission, strategic goals and core values.
· In conjunction with the President/CEO and MAAC’s management team and consultants, participates in the development and implementation of strategic and business plans, goals and objectives; assists in the development and application of new processes and technologies to achieve higher efficiency, productivity and customer service in applicable work processes.
· Manages, plans and oversees implementation and execution of approved fund development, marketing and public relations goals, objectives, plans, strategies, policies, standards and messages directed to both internal and external groups.
· Plans and leads the efforts to promote MAAC and its resource development program and activities on the MAAC website as well as on other electronic media sites such as Facebook and Twitter ensuring MAAC positively promotes its message and programs to a variety of community and civic groups and the public.
· Manages, plans and oversees the development and implementation of marketing, public relations, media and special events; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key contacts and potential business and community partners; builds liaison with strategic partners and oversees and manages the identification and implementation of plans to collaborate on marketing, public relations and fund development issues; directs and oversees the development of agency collateral materials; oversees and directs the presentation of concepts, ideas and plans to stakeholders; oversees the management and update of master mailing lists; directs planning and carrying out of a variety of special events.
· Assists with the management and oversight of the development and implementation of public and community relations programs and activities to ensure effective outreach to the public, key contacts and community organizations. .
· Manages, plans and oversees media and public-response activities; ensures responsiveness to the media and the public; in conjunction with the executive management team oversees and approves information and messages that will be provided to the media and the public to ensure MAAC is promoted in a favorable manner; serves as a principal media spokesperson for MAAC and responds to public and media inquiries on matters that are extremely sensitive or have major potential impacts on MAAC.
· Analyzes internal and/or public relations implications and provides strategic communication and community outreach advice regarding various MAAC activities and projects; researches and writes background and other communications materials on various issues for executive management; understands, enforces, interprets and explains complex regulations, laws and guidelines.
· Represents MAAC in a wide variety of high-visibility civic, community and professional organizations and associations; communicates MAAC activities and position on issues and activities; identifies and commits to appropriate action/follow-up on behalf of MAAC; works with MAAC senior management to address issues and requests; as requested by civic or community organizations and others, makes public presentations, including speeches and audiovisual presentations or ensures that MAAC is represented at events.
· Along with the Information Technology Department, assists with the development, enhancement, replacement and utilization of marketing and fund development management systems as well as the research, selection, implementation, evaluation and improvement of applicable systems.
· Participates in the identification of marketing, public relations and fund development areas that require process improvement, oversees development, integration and implementation of new or revised policies, processes, standards and internal controls for MAAC’s marketing, public relations & fund development.
· In conjunction with contract grant writers, ensures accuracy and timelines are met. Maintains grant inventory and is knowledgeable about all grant processes at all times.
· Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with MAAC management, staff, community and business leaders, local elected officials, representatives of community, professional and business organizations and funding agencies, donors, volunteers, the media, the public and others encountered in the course of work.
Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in marketing, public relations, communications, business administration, or a closely related field; and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in fund development, marketing, public affairs, public information, or community outreach, at least one of which was in a supervisory or management capacity; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Applicants must demonstrate a proven successful track record of supporting fundraising activities and efforts.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under MAAC’s vehicle insurance policy.

Physical: Upon occasion may push/pull and lift/carry objects more than 20 pounds, but fewer than 50 pounds. Frequently perform simple manipulative skills such as standing, walking, etc. Frequently performs tasks, which require moderate to complex manipulation such as 10-key/computer/typewriter keyboarding. Frequently walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time. Frequently needs to perform functions, which require ability to reach above shoulders, bend, and kneel or squat.
Sensory: Frequently read fine print. Frequently distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering telephones, hearing overhead page, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and make self understood while also understanding others using the English language.
Cognitive: Frequently concentrates on moderate to fine detail with constant interruption, and attends to task/function for more than 60 minutes at a time. Must understand and relate to specific ideas, generally several at a time, and relay such understanding to others. Must also remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several weeks.
Environment: Frequent exposure to Electro-magnetic radiation, as in CRTs (VDTs) and other hazardous office chemical materials, i.e., correction fluids and CRT screen/typewriter cleaners.
