This is a twelve month, at-will position traditional school year, with benefits. Salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 annually; placement in range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The MAAC Community Charter School (MCCS), sponsored by the MAAC Project social service agency in Chula Vista, California was established in 2001 and is a chartered under the Sweetwater Union High School District. Its mission is to provide low-income, high risk students in grades 9-12 through age 20 the opportunity to earn a high school diploma in a small, supportive educational environment where progress is expected and different learning styles are valued. MCCS offers all the core classes necessary for entry to community college as well as five Career Pathways enhanced by project-based learning. The school opened with 55 students and has increased its enrollment to approximately 300 students taught by a faculty of 17 credentialed teachers. MCCS works collegially and promotes a democratic school atmosphere. The campus features more than 30,000 square feet, including 13 classrooms, state-of-the-art computer technology laboratories, a multi-media classroom, a science lab, a library and a large multi-purpose room. MCCS operates on a traditional (August-June) school calendar and the minimum work week daily hours for staff are 7: 45 a.m.- 4:15 p.m.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Director (Principal) of the Charter School, the Assistant Directorwill perform management duties that require the use of sound, independent judgment. While the Director will designate priorities for attention, the Assistant Director will primarily have responsibility for the daily operational aspects of the school. He/she will substitute for the Director in the absence of the Director.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director will implement, manage and/or oversee:
· Timely writing and submission of all district, state and other educational reports.
· The drafting and monitoring of the school budget
- The ordering of materials, supplies and equipment
- The maintenance and upkeep of the school building and campus grounds
- Student recruitment, enrollment, attendance and retention
- Student comportment and progress
- The student testing program
· The school lunch program
- Categorical or specially-funded programs as assigned by the Director
- Professional development of faculty and staff
- Long-range planning of the academic program, in conjunction with the Director and others
- The writing and monitoring of school policies and procedures, including human resource, school safety and technology plans
- Parent and community involvement
- Fundraising, internship and outreach programs for the school
- Coordination with MAAC Human Resources, departments of the school district, and the MAAC Project as assigned
- Acting for the Director in the Director's absence, including attending internal and external meetings, conferences, activities and events
Special requirements
The Assistant Director must be a flexible problem-solver who is responsible and dependable. He/she should have excellent cross-cultural communication and organizational skills and a positive attitude. He/she must establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all staff, students, families, the school district, the public and representatives of community agencies. He/she must be able to carry out oral and written instructions and perform other related duties as requested by the Director. Supervision of or participation in frequent evening and weekend school-related activities is required.
EDUCATION, SKILLS EXPERIENCE
· Graduate degree in education, educational administration, business administration, law, non-profit management or a related area is required
· At least 3 years of experience in administration and management of an urban secondary school; preferably a progressive public/charter school
· Fluent Spanish
· A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in budget preparation and oversight
· Knowledge of student information management systems
· Knowledge of federal, state and local educational laws, rules and regulations
· Experience in property management and maintenance of facilities
· Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite
· Excellent supervisory, presentation and facilitation skills for guiding staff and professional development
· Demonstrated skill in writing educational reports
· Proven skills and success in fund development and grant proposal writing
License, Certification and Special Requirements
· Valid California Driver's license and daily use of personal insured vehicle at hire and maintained during employment
· A California Administrative Services Credential is highly desirable

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
HEALTH STATUS
Must have a pre-employment and a bi- annual physical examination and TB clearance as required by state and federal regulations performed by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC Project. Such exam and clearance must occur within seven (7) days of hire for new employees.
BACKGROUND CLEARANCE
Prospective employees are subject to fingerprinting and a criminal background check clearance and must sign a criminal record statement, and an Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to employment or his/her first day in employment. The Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) name check may be an additional background check required for individuals associated with any facility that cares for children.
