MAAC Project is the recipient of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds from the Department of Health and Human Services for the expansion of the Early Head Start child care program. This position is anticipated to be funded for 2 years. In the event program funding is reduced or eliminated, incumbents in SEIU represented positions will be subject to layoff procedures in a manner consistent with MAAC’s labor contract (currently Article 12, Section 7). Other positions funded by ARRA may be subject to layoff pursuant to MAAC policies and procedures.
DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Parent Involvement Manager, will be responsible for the planning, coordinating, and implementing the Family Literacy Program and assisting in various aspects of the Parent Involvement Service Area.
DUTIES
- Visit MAAC Project Early Head Start centers to work with staff and parents
- Promote positive and effective relationships between staff and parents
- Assist in the planning and coordinating of parent education activities at assigned centers
- Assist in the recruitment and participation of parent education activities at assigned centers
- Act as liaison between Early Head Start parents and adult education agencies, programs, and schools
- Under the guidance and with approval of the Parent Involvement Manager, will plan, coordinate, and implement the Family Literacy Program for Early Head Start Parents and children
- Assist in maintaining accurate parent participation records and reports
- Advocate for the rights of parents;
- Attend some evening/weekend meetings, conferences, training’s and workshops
- Attend center parent meetings at assigned sites. Help with verbal translations as needed
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to relate positively and effectively with families of various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
- Must be available to work flexible hours and days
- Knowledge of community resources and procedures
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing
Education/Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three (3)-six (6) units in social work/sciences or related field
- One (1) year experience working with adults in Early Head Start Program-1st Preferred Requirement
- One (1) year experience working with adults in a social service setting-2nd Preferred Requirement
TRANSPORTATION
Must have a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of personal, insured vehicle, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report at time of hire.
HEALTH STATUS
Must have a physical examination and TB clearance as required by state and federal regulations by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC Project within seven (7) days of hire.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE
California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in the licensed facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to employment or first day in facility.
SALARY $9.74 (Step 1) - $ 10.49 (Step4) per hour
UNION MEMBERSHIP
Social Services Union, Local 221, Services Employees International Union; AFL-CIO. Monthly dues of 1.65% of monthly gross income; minimum of $8.00 per month. Deductions to begin after 30 days of employment.
