SALARY RANGE: $35,000-40,000 commensurate with experience. 

 

MAAC Project is the recipient of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds from the Department of Health and Human Services for the expansion of the Early Head Start child care program. This is a temporary position with funding anticipated for 2 years
 
POSITION DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of an Early Childhood Education Manager, will coordinate and direct the implementation of the Head Start and Early Head Start Performance Standards for 0-5 Centers, FCCP and Partner programs.
 
DUTIES:
·         Assure that sites are in compliance with all State licensing regulations and Head Start Performance Standards.
·         Using current monitoring tools and checklists, monitor assigned sites quarterly to assure they are meeting licensing and Performance Standards, especially Health requirements.
·         Provide or recommend training and technical assistance to assist staff in developmentally appropriate activities, positive adult-child interactions, and meeting State and Federal requirements.
·         Track monitoring and timely follow up on areas of concern or non-compliance.
·         Ensure the implementation of all approved curriculum models and screening and assessment tools.
·         Participate and contribute to planning/management activities, committees and meetings.
·         Attend monthly evening meetings, conferences, community meetings and /or training programs as required.
·         Communicate effectively with HS/EHS Managers and upper management to problem solve difficult issues
·         Provide information and refer teachers to appropriate career counselors or other sources for required courses; research sources of scholarships and grants to support teacher training;
·         Serve as mentor coach by observing and assessing the classroom activities, provide on-the-job guidance and training in order to improve the qualifications, skills and training of classroom staff.
·         Collaborate and maintain positive working relationships with community organizations.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
·         Demonstrated ability to communicate proficiently in English (orally, reading and writing).   Demonstrated ability to speak Spanish preferred.
·         Demonstrated ability to supervise staff of various cultural backgrounds
·         Demonstrated ability to work positively with parents, staff and consultants.
·         Demonstrated understanding of  and experience implementing the Program for Infant Toddler Caregivers and Respect for Infant Educarers philosophy
·         Demonstrated ability and experience in relating positively and effectively with families of various cultures, disabilities, and socio economic background.
·         Demonstrated understanding of the needs of infants, toddlers, preschoolers with disabilities and their families and of the support services available to families.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
·         B.A degree with emphasis on Early Childhood Education or Child development (minimum 32 units);
·          3 – 6 units Infant/ Toddler course work;
·          3- 6 units in supervision / administration
·         1 year infant – toddler ( 0– 3 years ) classroom / child care teaching experience and /or preschool teaching experience.
·          2 or more year’s supervisory experience including program monitoring and training
·          1 year (Early Head Start / Head Start experience) or a combination of supervisory experience and classroom experience of at least 2 years.
 
Preferred:
Completion of Program for Infant Toddler Caregivers [PITC] trainer modules.
Respect for Infant Educators  (RIE) training.
AND
Valid CPR, First Aid and Food Handlers Cards must be obtained within first two months (2) of employment and maintained throughout employment (paid, designated training available through MAAC Project).
 In the event employees do not attend the scheduled training, they must obtain the cards through outside resources and costs will not be reimbursed. 
TRANSPORTATION
 Must have a valid California License and daily use of personal, insured vehicle, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle at time of hire.
 
HEALTH STATUS
Must have a physical examination and TB clearance as required by state and federal regulations by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC Project within seven (7) days of hire.

Physical Demands

Background Clearance
California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in the licensed facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to employment or first day in facility.
 
Annual Salary:
$35,000-40,000 commensurate with experience. This position is eligible to receive paid benefits including medical, dental, vision, life [for employee and qualified dependents];   The selected candidate will qualify for annual vacation, 12 paid holidays, 2 paid personal leave days, and a rewarding and professional work environment

SELECTION PROCEDURES:

Public Applicants:
Part A
A screening panel shall review each application to determine the level of qualifications. Only those with superior qualifications will be admitted to Part B.
Part B
An interview panel shall conduct appraisal interviews to evaluate the education, experience, and training
Part C
The interview panel shall recommend the most qualified applicants, not to exceed three (3), to the Head Start Director or designee for an interview and/or selection.
Part D
The Head Start Director or designee shall submit the selected applicant’s name with applicable documentation to the Policy Council.
Part E
The Policy Council must approve/disapprove the selected applicants prior to the hiring action taking place
