SALARY: $10.46 (Step 1)-$11.26 (Step 4) Per hour
STATUS: Temporary / FT

MAAC Project is the recipient of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds from the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is funded for 6 months. In the event program funding is reduced or eliminated, incumbents in SEIU represented positions will be subject to layoff procedures in a manner consistent with MAAC’s labor contract (currently Article 12, Section 7). 
Position Definition
Under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor, will provide care for infants and toddlers in the assigned group(s) and will plan, supervise and implement the education program within the classroom in accordance with policies, procedures, and philosophy of MAAC Project Early Head Start.   Early Head Start is a federally funded program for eligible and special needs children 0 – 3 years and pregnant women.
 
Primary Duties
-         Serve as a primary care giver to assigned infants / toddlers to provide respectful individualized care for infants and toddlers including feeding, diapering and holding
 
-         Assist with assigning children to primary care group and planning of individualized transitions into care
 
-         Partner with parents in order to provide consistent and culturally sensitive care through daily communication, as well as scheduled home visits and parent conferences
 
-         Responsible for planning and implementing age appropriate individual and small group activities including both daily indoor and outdoor activities.
 
-         Responsible for the set up and clean up of indoor and outdoor play spaces.
 
-         Responsible for assuring that classroom and outside play areas are maintaining to assure cleanliness and safety. Includes sanitizing toys and classroom equipment and assisting with laundry.   Maintaining clean and sanitized eating, diapering and napping areas and equipment.
 
-         Responsible for assuring preparation and serving of meals and snacks according to individual feeding plan
 
-         Responsible for accurately documenting care and developmental activities on individual daily records and on record keeping documents for each child 
 
-         Responsible for accurate attendance and meal counts.
 
-         Lift, carry, and hold children weighing 25 – 40lbs.
 
-         Responsible for scheduling and completing home visits at times convenient to parents; developing Individual Child Plans and Family Development Plans for each child and family at Phase In, and updating at least 3 times in the school year.
 
-         Responsible for developing and maintaining an open friendly and informative relationship with parents and volunteers. Assist in Interpretation and explanation of Early Head Start policies, programs and principles
 
-         Attend mandated trainings, programs, conferences and meetings.
 
-         Assist with personalized services for special needs children (specialized training and equipment provided as needed).
 
Qualifications: Knowledge/Skills
-         Bilingual (English / Spanish) speaking, reading and writing preferred
-         Proficient in oral and written English
-         Basic arithmetic,
-         May occasionally be required to work overtime

-         Knowledge of child development principles including bilingual language principles preferred.

-         Knowledge of Head Start philosophy, principles, and comprehensive services preferred.

Education/Experience/Certification
-         High School diploma or equivalent
 
1st Preferred Requirement
-        AA, BA/BS or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education; OR a degree in a related field (which included six or more courses in early childhood education and/or child development)
-        Completion of supervised student teaching and experience as an infant-toddler teacher.
-        6 units in infant and toddler course work
 
2nd Preferred Requirement
-        A State of California Regular Children’s Center Permit or Child Development Permit, Teacher Level, issued by the California Commission on Teacher Preparation and Licensing
-        One (1) year experience with children 0 – 3 years in a child care setting or Early Head Start program
-        6 units in infant and toddler course work
 
3rd Preferred Requirement
-        Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, and Two (2) years experience with children in a child care or Early Head Start setting plus
-        3 units in infant and toddler course work.
 
Must be willing to complete needed infant and toddler units up to a total of 6 units within 1 year.
AND
Valid CPR, First Aid and Food Handlers Cards must be obtained within first two months (2) of employment and maintained throughout employment (paid, designated training available through MAAC Project) In the event employees do not attend the scheduled training, they must obtain the cards through outside resources and costs will not be reimbursed. The cards must be obtained and maintained within prescribed timelines.
 
Note: Submission of transcripts, certificates, diplomas, verification of work experience may be required for certain    Positions.
 
Health Status
Must have a physical examination and TB clearance as required by state and federal regulations by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC Project within seven (7) days of hire for new employees.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.
 
Background Clearance

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to employment or first day in facility.
 
Transportation
Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
 
Union Membership
This position is represented by Service Employees International Union, Local 221, CTW. Dues/deductions begin after 30 days of employment.
