May 14, 2014 – Fires in San Diego County

Update: MAAC Head Start child development centers and the administrative offices in North County will be closed on Friday, May 16.

Dear MAACies and Our MAACie Familia,

As we might have expected, this week’s warm weather has brought with it several wildfires throughout San Diego County. I realize that this can be an incredibly scary and stressful time for you, your families and friends, and for those you work with across our MAAC programs.

Our first priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our MAACies, their families and the families we serve, that is why tomorrow all MAAC Head Start centers will be closed. Our administrative offices will remain open on a limited basis, provided access to the office is available. We are in close contact with local authorities regarding the proximity of the fires to our office and program sites and whether evacuations are necessary. Please be mindful of your emails, voice mails and announcements to ensure you receive information in a timely manner.

Staff assigned to the Child Development administrative offices in North County should report to work provided they are not impacted by the fires and access to the offices is available. Staff assigned to Child Development program centers should not report to work on Thursday, May 15th and be available for work on Friday, May 16th should centers be accessible. For all staff that are directly impacted by the fire please inform your direct supervisor immediately and note that you are not expected to report to work for the remainder of this week.

I know that your first concerns are likely your families. Please visit our community’s online resources for up to date information about fires, evacuations and resources. The County of San Diego can be reached online at http://www.sdcountyemergency.com. Our community partner 211 San Diego is also posting important information on their site at http://www.211sandiego.org and can be reached by phone by dialing 211 from any phone.

On behalf of MAAC’s Board of Directors and all of us at MAAC, our thoughts are with all of you and your loved ones. Stay safe and be well.

Sinceramente,
Arnulfo
